Pune: A case of financial embezzlement of a shop owner worth Rs 45 lakh has come to light in Pune’s Kothrud area. Two accused duped a shop owner by enticing him to give sugar at a lower than market price. In this case, Kothrud police have registered a case against two directors of VDP Swaad Foods Private Limited Company and arrested them.

In this regard, Sunil Shivaramji Gehlot, 38, filed a police complaint at Kothrud Police Station. Accordingly, police booked the accused, Vikram Dinkar Patil, age 42, and Digvijay Dinkar Patil, age 38, under IPC 409, 420, 406, and 34, and apprehended them. Both the accused are the directors of VDP Swaad Foods Private Limited Company.

Gehlot is a grocery shop owner and owns a wholesale shop named Shree Balaji Trading Company in Bhelkenagar. In June 2023, two accused came to the plaintiff’s shop as traders and offered Gehlot a deal on selling lower-priced sugar under different schemes.

After winning his trust, the accused took an order for providing 150 tonnes of sugar worth Rs 45 lakh from the plaintiff. Accordingly, the amount of the order was transferred online by the plaintiff to the bank account of VDP Swaad Foods Private Limited Company. However, to the plaintiff’s surprise, both the accused did not keep their promise and did not provide sugar to the plaintiff as per their deal.

Shockingly, when the plaintiff demanded the money back from them, the accused gave him a check; however, they cheated the plaintiff by stopping the payment of the check. After realising that he had been cheated, the plaintiff registered a case against both the accused at Kothrud Police Station. Further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Police Inspector Alekar.
