Pune: Cyber Team of Shivaji Nagar Police Detain Computer Engineer for Laptop Theft and Fraud

Pune: The cyber team of Shivajinagar police station has apprehended a computer engineer involved in the theft of a laptop from a computer sales and repair shop, as well as fraudulent activities amounting to Rs 4 lakhs. The incident, which occurred between September 2023 and January 17 at Inner Space Computers in Shivajinagar, came to light following a complaint filed by Girish Vijay Hasurkar (50), a resident of Shivajinagar, Pune, on February 17.

The accused, identified as Sameer Ramnath Thorat (39) from Mhatoba Nagar, Kothrud, allegedly sold four laptops and other materials from the shop while the plaintiff was away in Dubai, pocketing the proceeds and deceiving customers. A case has been registered against Thorat under IPC sections 420 and 408.

Utilising technical analysis and confidential information, the cyber team led by Assistant Police Inspector Bajirao Naik, along with Police Constables Rupesh Waghmare, Adesh Chalawadi, and Ruchika Jamdade, successfully traced and apprehended the accused. Thorat confessed to the crimes during interrogation, leading to the recovery of laptops worth Rs 1 lakh, 40 thousand, from his possession.
