Pune University Vice Chancellor booked in Atrocity Case

Pune, July 7, 2019 : Based directions from Pune sessions court on a private complaint, the Pune city police on Saturday registered FIR against six persons including the Nitin Karmalkar, the Vice Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

Akash Bhosale (25), a resident of Indapur in Pune district, has lodged the complaint with Chatushrungi police station. Bhosale is currently pursuing MPhil from Marathi department at the university and stays in hostel on the campus. He also works as freelance journalist. He is also Editor of Aawaz Today News and works as a reporter of Max Maharashtra, and
also works as a reporter of Vaishno times

As per his complaint, Bhosale belongs to Mahar caste which is recognised as Scheduled caste under the Constitution(Scheduled caste) Order, 1950 and under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. As a Journalist the petitioner has published many news against alleged illegal acts, arbitrary acts, which were against the interest of students.

“Therefore, all the accused intentionally and deliberately to harass the petitioner (Bhosale), as he had published news against the accused persons, hatched a criminal conspiracy and have filed a false case against him on information of (security guard) Bhursingh Ajitsingh Rajput, at Chaturshrungi Police Station”, the complaint states. Bhosale is currently out on anticipatory bail.

The FIR against 12 students including Bhosale was registered after about 200 students had gathered outside refectory of the SPPU to protest and allegedly damaged property at the refectory. The students were protesting against new rules at refectory like only monthly pass holders will be given food, food cannot be taken out etc.

The SPPU lodged the FIR at Chatuhshrungi Police Station on April 1, followed by which charges under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), section 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), section 143 (Punishment of whoever is involved in unlawful assembly), section 147 (Punishment for rioting), section 149 and section 427 (Damage to property) were imposed on the students.

Later Bhosale and other students lodged complaint application with police demanding FIR against SPPU officials. However, police didn’t register the case stating that they are still investigation the previous case.

Then, through advocate Tosif Shaikh he filed complaint with the court which gave directions to police investigate the case.

The Chatushrungi police station has booked Nitin R. Karmalkar,[Vice Chancellor], Prafulla A. Pawar, [Registrar], Sanjay Chakane,[Senate Member], Rajput and other unidentified persons.
