Pune Water Crisis | Thrice the number of tankers deployed in Pune Division compared to summer

Pune: Policenama online  – Pune Water Crisis | In Pune Division, 128 villages and 857 settlements are facing a severe water shortage during the monsoon which is worse than what they encounter during summer. The population of these villages and settlements is 2.63 lakh and it is thirsty during the monsoon. (Pune Water Crisis)

At present, water is being supplied through 143 tankers to these villages and settlements. Thrice the number of tankers are being used to supply water now compared to summer.

During summer, in May, 39 tankers were deployed to supply water. Through these tankers, 651 residents of 45 villages and 189 settlements were being supplied water. Till the third week of March, no tankers were used to supply water.

The divisional commissionerate daily publishes the number of tankers deployed to supply water and this fact has come to light through this data.
Some villages and settlements face water shortage from December as seen from the proposals demanding water supply from tankers. Till March end, not a single proposal seeking water supply through tankers had been received. Pune Division consists of Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts. Some talukas in these districts are known as drought-prone talukas.

Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said the drought-prone talukas are Baramati, Indapur and Purandar taluka in Pune district, Jat, Tasgaon and Miraj in Sangli district, Maan, Khatav and Phaltan talukas in Satara district and Sangola, Mangalwedha, Madha, Karmala and Malshiras in Solapur district.
