Rain lashes Valley, fresh snowfall in Gulmarg

Srinagar, Mar 25 (UNI) – The plains of Jammu and Kashmir were lashed by rains while the upper reaches received fresh snowfall in the last 24 hours, the Meteorological Department officials said on Saturday.

 

Gulmarg, the famous ski-resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, recorded 3.8 cms of fresh snow during the night.

 

MeT said the resort recorded the minimum temperature of minus 1.0 degrees Celsius last night.

 

While Gulmarg received snowfall, other parts of the Valley were lashed with rains which continued on Saturday.

 

According to MeT Srinagar received 8.7 mm of rain and recorded a low of 5.8 degrees Celsius, up from 5.3 degrees Celsius the previous night, the MeT said.

 

The mercury in Pahalgam resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, settled last night at a low of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, down by nearly a degree against 0.6 degree Celsius yesterday, the official said.

 

The resort recorded 9.4 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.

 

The Kokernag town in south Kashmir Anantnag district recorded the highest rainfall since Friday. The town received 13.6 mm of rainfall. The minimum temperature was 3.8 degrees Celsius– over a degree down from the previous night’s 4.7 degrees Celsius.

 

In the last 24 hours Jammu received 22.3 mm of rains, Banihal 33 mm, Batote 47.2 mm, Katra 29.2 mm, Bhaderwah 34.8 mm and Kathua 37.8 mm.

 

Jammu recorded a minimum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius, MeT said.

 

In Ladakh’s Drass the night temperature was minus 1.1 degrees Celsius, Kargil 0.2 and Leh minus 3.2.

 

The MeT on Saturday predicted scattered to fairly widespread light rain, thunderstorm and snow over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 24 hours.

 

An independent weather forecaster predicted that most places in Jammu and Kashmir will experience light to moderate rain today, with the maximum activity in parts of the Jammu division.
