Shirur police crackdown on sand mafia, seize materials worth Rs 3.26 Cr

Shikrapur : The team of Shirur police cracked down on 17 illegal sand smuggling boats and confiscated goods worth Rs 3.26 crore at Gunat in Shirur taluka, informed Shirur Police Inspector Praveen Khanapure. Rs 3 crore 26 lakh 60 thousand on the spot.

According to the police, Shirur police received tip-off that unauthorized sand extraction was going on in Ghodnadi basin at Gunat in Shirur taluka. Accordingly, a team of Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Mote, Pawar, Police Naik Umesh Bhagat and Home Guard raided the place. Among them, 16 brass sands, 5 small and big boats and a total of 17 boats worth Rs 3. 26 crore were seized from the spot.

Cases have been registered against the boat owner and driver along with 15 to 20 others. Sub-Inspector of Police Sunil Mote is conducting further investigation in this regard under the guidance of Police Inspector Praveen Khanapure of Shirur Police Station.
