NIA continues crackdown against human traffickers in Tripura

Agartala, Dec 30 (UNI)- The National Investigation Agency (NIA) continued its crackdown in Tripura for the second day on Saturday against the human traffickers, drug dealers, and border touts based on the inputs shared by the intelligence branch of the state police, sources said here. Tripura police have so far shared the list of 156 people with NIA involved in border crime.

The NIA team and Tripura police in a joint operation arrested at least six people from four police station limits of three districts on Friday and they are identified as Md Faruk Hossain (25) of Sonamura in Sepahijala, Suman Tripura (33) and Kongfru Mog (32) of Sabroom, and Amalesh Das (40) of Belonia in South Tripura and Nasim Ali (60) and his son Rubel Ali (36) of Irani in Unokoti district.

They will be flown to Guwahati on transit remand in connection with the case registered in Assam in October this year for their involvement in facilitating illegal infiltration of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals to Indian cities, smuggling of drugs and narcotics, and illegal trade of contraband items, police sources stated.

The NIA had earlier arrested as many as 29 people from different bordering locations of Tripura in November. Their trial has been going on in the Special NIA Court in Guwahati.

The NIA investigations revealed that the arrested persons were located close to the Indo-Bangladesh international border and were linked with the previous arrest.
