Azamgargh (UP), Dec 27 (UNI)- A 61-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified persons in the Sidhari area of Azamgarh district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a senior police officer said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Anurag Arya said that the incident took place in Shahgarh Bazar, where businessman Ashok Kumar Modanwal was shot dead by unidentified miscreants when he had gone out for a morning walk.
“Modanwal owns a shop and house in Shahgarh Bazar. By the time local residents reached the spot after hearing gunshots, the assailants had escaped,” he said.
He said that a team has been constituted to collect the CCTV footage and other evidence for the arrest of the assailants. “An illicit firearm has been recovered from the spot which is being investigated by the field unit,” he said.
The SP said that the body has been sent for postmortem examination and a case would be lodged on the complaint of the family members.
