Conditions favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon

Pune, Jun 8 (UNI) Conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea remaining parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and southwest, Central and northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during next 48 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Thursday.

Thus, Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala on Thursday, 2023 against the normal date of 01st June.

As per the IMD, Heat Wave to Severe Heat Wave conditions prevailed in some parts of Bihar. Heat Wave conditions in some parts of Gangetic West Bengal; in isolated pockets over Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Day temperatures were markedly above normal (5.1°C or more) at many places over Bihar, Assam and Meghalaya; at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.1°C ) at most places over Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Gangetic West Bengal; at many places over Jharkhand, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka; at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Lakshadweep; at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana; at many places over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Marathwada, Konkan, Goa, Rayalaseema, Kerala and Mahe; at a few places over south interior Karnataka.

They were appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.1°C)at many places over Punjab; at a few places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi; below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at most places over east Rajasthan; at many places over west Rajasthan; at a few places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands; at isolated places over Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat Region and near normal over rest parts of the country.

The highest maximum temperature of 44.5°C was reported at Sambalpur (Odisha).

Thunderstorms observed at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Punjab, east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Kerala, Mahe, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the weather office said.

Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at many places in Kerala and at a few places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep and at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, West Bengal and Sikkim, Odisha, Jharkhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, west Rajasthan, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gujarat State, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalseema, Tamil Nadu and interior Karnataka. Mainly dry weather has prevailed in Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh.
