Pune :   Policenama online  – “My father died last year due to coronavirus infection. I got a job in the Pune Municipal Corporation on compassionate grounds but did not get any financial help. Now, according to a new decision, a compensation of Rs 50 lakh will be given. But many people like me have been waiting for compensation since last year. Many haven’t got a job on compassionate grounds and financial help Why the civic body is so careless about its own employees?’’ Such questions are being asked by family members of the victims.

During the first and second wave, 88 civic employees lost their lives but only families of 15 employees have received financial help so far. The general body of the PMC passed a resolution to provide Rs 50 lakh to family members of the deceased but the file is stuck in the red tape.

The employees of the PMC had to go out on the field to provide civic services to citizens. Some employees were infected with the coronavirus and passed away. It was announced that Rs 1 crore aid will be provided to the family members with the joint contribution of the Centre and the PMC.

However, the Centre issued guidelines that only family members of health workers of COVID-19 centres will get aid. The PMC had announced that it will provide a job to a family member of the deceased and an aid of Rs 50 lakh.

During the first and second wave, 88 employees of the civic body succumbed to the coronavirus infection. A family member of 25 deceased was given a job. Out of them, 15 families received aid of Rs 25 lakh and 10 families are still waiting to get compensation.

Sixty three families neither got a job nor aid. The proposal passed in the general body was sent to Additional Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Binwade and now, it is pending with civic chief Vikram Kumar.
