A 50-year-old man has lodged a complaint (78/23) at the Sahakar Nagar police station. The police have registered an FIR against Sarojkumar Jena and Dharmendra Soni.
According to the police, the complainant received a credit card of RBL Bank sent by Bajaj Finserv through a courier. There was a credit card of the finance company and the toll free number of Bajaj Finserv. He contacted the toll free number to generate the PIN for the credit card. A man told him that he was speaking on behalf of Bajaj Finserv bank. He asked the credit card number and the CVV number printed behind it. He also asked for the OTP number received on his mobile. He said the card was not getting activated and asked the complainant to share the two OTPs received by him. He later cut the call saying he was busy with some other work.
The complainant received a call on the next day and the caller said that he was speaking from Bajaj Finserv banking company. He told the complainant that the incomplete work of PIN activation would be completed. When the complainant agreed, the caller told him to download AnyDesk app from Google Playstore. After he downloaded the app, he was told to enter the credit card number and bank account number details in the app. After filling in the information, he was told to send ₹2 to a number. However, the complainant was unable to send the money. The caller told him to enter the OTP in the AnyDesk app. The caller told him that the OTP was wrong and six times took the OTP. He told the complainant that his card had been activated and told him that his year of birth is the PIN.
In the evening, he tried to recharge his daughter’s mobile by using PhonePay but realised that there was no money in the account.
The toll free number of Bajaj Finserv is of Mumbai and an employee gave the complainant’s number to cyber crooks. Hence, the cyber crooks got details of the complainant and they cheated him, as per initial investigations. An employee handling the toll free number of Bajaj Finserv hatched a conspiracy with cyber crooks and carried out the cyber theft. The Sahakar Nagar police are investigating the case.
