National Lok Adalat: Pune district is number one in state by disposing of 64,000 cases
Pune : Policenama online – National Lok Adalat in Pune | The National Lok Adalat which was organised by Chief District and Sessions Judge Sanjay A. Deshmukh disposed of 64,373 pending cases and the Pune district is number one in the state.
One hundred and twenty five panels were set up for the adalat and many cases were settled by compromise. Along with pending 16,695 pending cases, 17,714 cases through a special campaign and 29,964 cases i.e. totally 64,373 cases were resolved.
Out of 47,442 pending cases kept for compromise, 16,695 cases were resolved and a sum of Rs 47 crore 41 lakh was collected as compromise charges. Out of 1 lakh 82 thousand 247 cases, 29,964 cases were disposed of and a sum of Rs 50 crore 66 lakh was collected as compromise charges. In all, 46,659 cases were disposed of and a sum of Rs 98 crore 7 lakh was collected as compromise charges.
As part of a special drive, from March 7 to March 11, 22,688 cases were taken up for hearing and 17,714 cases were disposed of. The Pune district has maintained the lead in disposal of cases during the National Lok Adalat. Civil Judge Senior Level Pratap Sawant said all judicial officers, employees, officials of various divisions and the citizens cooperated very well.
Salient features
1) After four years, consumer court cases were taken up for hearing. There was a good response from citizens and 41 cases were resolved.
2) A panel of the Motor Accident Tribunal awarded a compensation of Rs 34 lakh to a 85-year-old woman.
3) A person who had lost his leg in the accident got justice and a compensation of Rs 50 lakh. The lawyer did not take his fee from the person.
4) Forty couples, who had filed applications for divorce, agreed to continue with their marriage by mutual agreement.
An independent panel for women conducted a hearing and 12 couples agreed to give another chance to their marriage. All members of the panel and staff were women.
