PCMC’s novel initiative | Deposit empty plastic bottles, get tea, vada-pav for free
Pimpri : Policenama online – The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has come up with a novel idea to curb environmental pollution and to improve cleanliness in the city.
The civic body has launched an initiative to check dumping of empty cold drink and water bottles on roadsides by citizens. Now, to discourage people from littering roads and public places with plastic waste, the PCMC will provide a cup of tea for five empty plastic bottles while a vada-pav for 10 empty bottles for free. The initiative will be launched soon. Small snack vendors and restaurateurs have been appealed to participate by applying for the scheme. This was revealed by Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Patil.
Tea and vada-pav will be distributed by these small stalls. They will, in turn, hand over the collected empty plastic bottles to the civic body and will get Rs 10 per tea cup and Rs 15 per vada-pav distributed to garbage collectors or citizens.
Snack vendors, restaurateurs will have to submit an application to participate with the civic body in this connection. However, they will have to maintain cleanliness on their premises.
Explaining the objective behind this novel programme, Rajesh Patil said, “We are trying our best to collect plastic waste and for its proper disposal while encouraging citizens to participate in this initiative.”
