PMRDA Ring Road to have three different widths in Pune, outskirts

Pune : Policenama online – The Ring Road being developed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to ease traffic jams in the city will have three different widths. It will be 65 metres within the municipal limits while it will be 90 metres at some places.

The Ring Road will have 110 metres of width within the PMRDA limits. There have been frequent changes to the policy related to the road. The authority is developing the road under its development plan. Its length will be 128 km. Its width was 90 metres in the first phase. Later, it was decided to have 110-m width. However, the authority again sent a proposal to the state government to change its width. The state urban development (UD) department recently approved the proposal. UD Secretary Kishor Gokhale issued an order in this regard. Suggestions and objections to the order have been invited.

The Ring Roads being developed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and the PMRDA are 15 km apart. However, they overlap in some villages around Pune. These 40-km long lover-lapping stretches were dropped from the PMRDA plan. However, the stretches were again incorporated in the PMRDA plan. Hence, the road has different widths within the limits of PMC and PMRDA.

The state government’s decision to reduce the road’s width will prompt 37 (1) action by the municipal corporation. This is likely to cause many issues.
