Pune: Fifth major crackdown on ‘meow meow’ drug dealers, mephedrone worth Rs 11 lakh seized

Pune: The Anti-Narcotics Cell from the Crime Branch of Pune Police seized 212 grams of mephedrone (also known as meow meow) drug worth Rs 11 lakh on Sunday. The police have arrested two suspected drug dealers on Sunday. The action was taken on Sunday (October 25) night near Bharati Vidyapeeth.

Police have identified the suspects as Visarat Ali Sana Ullah (32), a resident of Swapnali Society, Balajinagar in Dhankawadi and who hails from Pachgachi in Bihar and Brijesh Upendra Sharma (38), a resident of Dongri in Mumbai.

According to the police, a team of Assistant Inspector of Police Raikar along with police personnel Joshi, Bomadandi, Salunkhe, Shinde, Dalvi, Gaikwad, Jachak, Shirolkar and Mohite from the Crime Branch’s Anti-Narcotics Cell were patrolling in the jurisdiction of Bharati University police station.

The team noticed two youths moving suspiciously in a car on the Pune-Mumbai bypass road near JSPM institute at the Katraj junction. While questioning, police officials also searched the car and found mephedrone drugs worth Rs 11 lakh inside the car. The drugs worth Rs 11 lakh, car worth Rs 5 lakh, two mobile phones and Rs 1,000 cash were seized on the spot. A case under NDPS has been registered against the suspects at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bachchan Singh informed, “This is the fifth major crackdown on mephedrone drug dealers so far. We will continue to raid and seize other drugs including mephedrone.”

Recently, nine people, including a Nigerian man and a former aide of gangster Chhota Rajan, were arrested in connection with Rs 20 crore drug racket in Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune district. Earlier this month, the police had confiscated 20 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 20 crore at Chakan and nabbed five people.
