Pune | Man, six others held for procuring death certificate of wife alive

Pune-Manchar : Policenama onlineA man provided a bogus death certificate of his wife who was hospitalised for Covid-19 to a hospital here. He misappropriated the deposit money kept in a credit co-op society by issuing the bogus death certificate.

 

An offence has been registered in this regard against the man and four others from his family, the then Manchar gram panchayat village development officer and a woman employee. They have been booked for conspiring to make a bogus certificate, misappropriation and cheating.

 

On the directive of the Ghodegaon court, the Manchar police booked the woman’s husband Gitaram Abaji Pokharkar (38), her father-in-law Abaji Laxman Pokharkar (65), her mother-in-law Thakubai Abaji Pokharkar (60), her brother-in-law Gajanan Abaji Pokharkar (42), her sister-in-law Shantabai Balu Navale (44), all residents of Pimpalgaon Khadki of Ambegaon taluka. The then village development officer KD Bhojane (47) and gram panchayat employee Snehal Swapnil Gunjal (26) have also been booked.

 

Akshay Mankar and his sister Asha Gitaram Pokharkar visited Kulswami Co-op Credit Society to withdraw a matured deposit of Rs 39,000. An employee of the credit co-op society told them Asha had expired and her husband Gitaram Pokharkar withdrew the money.

 

This shocked Akshay Mankar. He told the employee that his sister was alive and was accompanying him. The employee showed them the certificate of Asha showing her death due to Covid-19. The Manchar Gram Panchayat had issued the certificate.

 

Asha Pokharkar claimed in the court that her husband furnished her bogus death certificate and misappropriated the deposit money. Adv. Vitthal Pokharkar argued on behalf of Asha Pokharkar. The court ordered the Manchar police to investigate the matter.

 

Policeman Rajendra Hile is investigating further under the guidance of PI Satish Hodgar.
