Pune : Policenama online – Due to the continuing strike by ST employees, about 90 per cent routes are shut in the Pune division. Hence, commuters don’t have any option but to travel by private buses. The business of private bus operators is booming and that of MSRTC is down in the dumps.
Employees of 13 depots of MSRTC’s Pune division are participating in the strike for two months and they are demanding merger of MSRTC with the state government.
The government has allowed private bus operators to operate their buses from ST depots in Pune division. In western Maharashtra, buses are being operated to Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Thane, Mumbai, Nashik and Aurangabad.
But on long routes like Nagpur, Amravati, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Latur, Osmanabad and Beed, ST buses are not being operated.
Booking on these routes is done through offices of private bus operators. Since there is no control on the fares of private buses, exorbitant fares are being charged.
