Pune News | Pune Municipal Corporation Cracks Down on Abandoned Vehicles Obstructing Traffic

0

Pune – Pune News | In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion and improve cleanliness, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a campaign to address the issue of abandoned vehicles left on roads and footpaths within its jurisdiction. The initiative aims to create smoother traffic flow and reduce the complaints of unpleasant odors caused by garbage accumulating around these abandoned vehicles. PMC will take strict action against such vehicles, beginning with the issuance of notices to their owners. If these vehicles are not removed within seven days, they will be impounded.

Abandoned vehicles can be found in various areas across the city, causing significant obstructions to traffic. To tackle this problem, PMC initiated a similar campaign last year, resulting in the removal of 1,200 abandoned vehicles from the city streets. The process incurred a cost of approximately 40 to 50 lakh rupees. Some vehicle owners were able to retrieve their impounded vehicles by paying the required fees, while the remaining vehicles were auctioned. The municipality generated revenue of 1.25 crores through this initiative.

PMC has once again taken action against abandoned vehicles to maintain order on the roads. Vehicle owners can reclaim their impounded vehicles by paying a disposal fee within one month. The fee structure set by the Municipal Council in 2017 is as follows: 25,000 rupees for passenger buses and trucks, 20,000 rupees for light vehicles weighing up to 10 tonnes, 15,000 rupees for four-wheelers, 10,000 rupees for three-wheelers, and 5,000 rupees for two-wheelers.

Before impounding a vehicle, PMC will issue a notice to the respective vehicle owner through the regional office. If the vehicle is not removed within seven days of receiving the notice, it will be confiscated. PMC has also provided a dedicated helpline number for reporting information about abandoned vehicles in localities.
