Senior lawyer Shrikant Shivade passes away at 67 in Pune

Pune : Policenama onlineSenior lawyer Shrikant Shivade passed away after a prolonged illness in Pune. He was suffering from cancer for the past one year. He breathed his last at 10 am on Wednesday. His last rites will be performed on Thursday.

 

Shivade is survived by wife and two sons. He was popular among the lawyer fraternity as a warm, studious, sociable and friendly person. He argued before the Bombay High Court via video conferencing even while he was suffering from cancer. Shivade was an expert in criminal cases. He is known for his cross-examinations of witnesses.

 

He started his career under senior lawyer Vijayrao Mohite. He worked with MP Vandana Chavan, Adv Harshad Nimbalkar and Adv Viraj Kakade. He was known as the Mohite Chamber lawyer. He always fought criminal matters. He came to the limelight after he argued in Salman Khan’s hit-and-run case in Bandra. He strengthened the argument in favour of Salman Khan by presenting the evidence from KPIT Technology and Land Cruiser companies related to the car.

 

Adv Shivade was also the legal counsel of Bollywood producer Bharat Shah in the case involving underworld don Chhota Shakeel. It was the first case in India, where the call record was produced as a proof in the court.

 

He also argued in the rape case filed against film director Madhur Bhandarkar. He was also the lawyer of Lt Col Prasad Purohit in the Malegaon bomb blast case.
