New Delhi : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday targeted the Finance Minister’s statement of ‘Act Of God’. He said that the economy was destroyed due to demonetisation, failed GST and failed lockdown.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted, citing the Finance Minister’s statement that ‘India’s economy has been destroyed by three actions, Demonetisation, Flawed GST, Failed lockdown. Anything else is a lie.’

Significantly, the Finance Minister said on Thursday that the economy has been affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, which is an act of god and will lead to contraction in the current financial year.

GST revenue receipts have been estimated to decrease by Rs 2.35 lakh crore in the current financial year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters after the 41st meeting of the GST Council that the Center will pay the compensation that is clearly due to the implementation of GST.

At the same time, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram tweeted on Friday, urging the state governments to reject the option given by the Center on the issue of compensation of GST and demand the amount in one voice.

It is worth mentioning that in the GST Council meeting on Thursday, the Center gave the option to the states that they can take loans for the required revenue in the current financial year and this will be helped by the Center.
