Mumbai : Policenama online The winter session of the state legislature is underway. A discussion was held on changing the rules governing the election of state assembly speaker.

During the discussion, heated exchanges took place between Congress MLA Nana Patole and BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar. “The government took over the reins in a dishonest manner,” said Mungantiwar. Patole objected to his remarks.

Mungantiwar said that the speaker’s elections could have happened unanimously. The opposition parties could have been consulted without holding any ego issue. Why was it not done?

Commenting on this, Patole said, “We changed rules to avoid horse trading. They were not changed for the first time. Why does the BJP get upset if one mentions the word ‘horse trading’?” Reacting to Patole’s remarks, Mungatiwar said the government came to power in a dishonest way. Patole objected to him using the word ‘dishonest’.

Patole raised his voice while saying this. Then Mungantiwar spoke in a raised voice to Patole. He said, “You said ‘horse trading’. You called MLAs as horses. Is this stable? You have disrespected the MLAs. Nana bhau, you were in the BJP for 10 years. Have you forgotten the values the BJP practises?”

Taking a potshot at the BJP over the swearing-in ceremony in the wee hours, Patole asked, “What can you call a government that was sworn in during the darkness of dawn?”
