About 60 pc vote polled till 1 pm at Sagardighi by-poll in Bengal

Kolkata, Feb 27 (UNI) – Sagardighi by-poll | About 60 percent vote was polled in the first six hours of polling till 1 pm in the bye-election to West Bengal’s Sagardighi Assembly constituency in the border district of Murshidabad, election officials said on Monday. (Sagardighi by-poll)

 

The voting, which began at 7 am, barring some complaints and counter complaints, was by and large peaceful so far. they said.

 

There was no untowards incident reported, they added.

 

The voter turnout till 1 pm was recorded around 60 percent, they said.

 

The polling, which began at a brisk note in the early hours and the momentum continued with the turnout of voters, particularly the female voters.

 

All the 246 polling booths have been identified sensitive and in all the booths the Central forces have been deployed to guard the centre and polling officials.

 

The ruling Trinamool Congress has fielded Debashish Banerjee, while the main opposition’s nominee is Dilip Saha, and the Left-supported Congress candidate is Bayron Biswas.

 

The bypoll to the Sagardighi Assembly seat was necessitated by the death of TMC MLA and State Minister Subrata Saha in December last year.

 

The voting for the by-poll commenced at 7 AM today and will conclude at 5 PM.

 

According to the Election Commission, the result will be declared on March 2, along with the results of state assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland.
