Ajit Pawar makes clear the direction of campaign in civic polls, it will be development plank
Pune : Policenama online – Making the direction of the poll campaign clear, Deputy Chief Minister and District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has underlined the ‘development’ issue in his public meetings in the city on Sunday. This indicated that the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will focus on the development plank in the civic elections 2022 in the city.
The basic civic amenities such as roads, water, drainage, primary health, solid waste management, and public transport are taken care of by the civic body. Particularly, Puneites are more aware about literacy and social issues. Therefore, the common people always consider whether their daily needs are fulfilled while voting in the Lok Sabha, state assembly or civic elections.
However, the trend of facilities changed in the past three decades due to globalisation and advances in the IT sector. Pune got the identity of being an industrial hub after these changes. It has been a challenge for every ruling party in Pune to keep pace with its expanding boundaries and to provide civic amenities. Other big cities in the country also have a similar situation. The NCP tried to provide facilities to all cities when it was in power at the Centre and in the State. Still, changing expectations, in the course of time, have always increased.
Pimpri Chinchwad and Navi Mumbai are the two leading examples of urban development. Mainly, quality roads, solid waste management in Pimpri Chinchwad and a systematic development in Navi Mumbai are the two best examples. The NCP ruled in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and Navi Mumbai for the 10 year before 2017. The Congress was the ruling party before that. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got single-handed power five years ago.
The BJP, which came to power at the Centre in 2019, could not match its success in 2014 in the Lok Sabha, state assembly elections in Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad and the remaining district in 2019. The NCP made a comeback in these elections due to Sharad Pawar’s leadership and Ajit Pawar’s extraordinary decision-making ability and his penchant for development. Though the BJP levelled corruption allegations against the Pawar family, people preferred the NCP in the final analysis.
Hence, Ajit Pawar has not reacted to the BJP’s campaign against the Maha Vikas Aghadi, particularly targeting the NCP in Pune and the Pawar family. He played an important role during the pandemic by conducting the review meetings and by taking civic officials into confidence. He also approved all proposals from the PMC immediately. Ajit Pawar did not indulge in allegations and counter-allegations. He focused on development and constructive work. He is continuing with that tempo, which was evident during the 30 programmes he attended in Pune on Sunday.
Starting with Sus-Mhalunge at 7 am, he travelled through Warje, Ambegaon, Sukhsagar Nagar, Kondhwa, Wanawadi, Hadapsar, Kharadi and Dhanori till 9 pm and inaugurated the 30 development projects. He did all this without planning anything, except the rally in Dhanori. However, the party corporators had made all arrangements for his public meetings. Speaking at these places, his speeches only talked about development issues. This has made clear the NCP’s direction of campaign in the civic elections.
