Pune : Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line | The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro line has been closed for more than two weeks. According to the traffic police, the permission would be given only if the width of the barricading was reduced. As the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which had earlier refused, finally agreed to reduce the width of the barricading, the work is likely to start within a week. However, there are signs of delay in the project due to the shutdown of work for so long.

According to sources, permission was sought for barricading at Krishi Vidyalaya Chowk for Metro work. Two meetings of the G-20 working group were held in Pune this month. Along with this, the Palkhi ceremony also proceeded from Pune. Due to this, barricading was not allowed for metro work. Metro work on Ganesh Khind road has been closed for more than two weeks due to lack of barricading. Permission for barricading has not yet been obtained from the traffic police.

A meeting was held between PMRDA and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Vijay Kumar Magar in this matter. PMRDA showed readiness to reduce the width of barricading in this meeting. The work on the metro pole has been completed, the barricading there will be brought down from 11 meters to 6 to 7 meters, PMRDA said. An assurance was also given that the road will be opened as much as possible. Sources said that Deputy Commissioner Magar has indicated his readiness to allow barricading within a week

Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line is 23 km long. A double-decker flyover will be constructed between Savitribai Phule Pune Vidyapeeth Chowk and E-Square on the same route. The length of this bridge will be 1.7 km. This flyover is going to be part of the Metro works. Sources explained that the work is stalled as barricading is not allowed, and the completion period may be extended.

“Traffic congestion on Ganesh Khind Road is increasing due to Metro work. Metro was asked to reduce the width of barricading on the road. They were not given permission as the width was not reduced. As the problem of traffic congestion is increasing day by day, it needs to be considered,” said Vijayakumar Magar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch.

“The work of erecting metro pillars between Veer Chapekar Chowk and Modi Bagh has been completed. The barricading at that place will be increased from 11 meters to 6 to 7 meters. This will open maximum road for vehicles. Barricading for work at Krishi Mahavidyalaya Chowk will be allowed by traffic police within a week,” Said RL Thange, Executive Engineer, PMRDA.
