Pune : Policenama onlineKoregaon Bhima Inquiry Commission | Vishwas Nangre Patil, who was the Special Inspector General of Police Kolhapur Range during the violence in Koregaon Bhima on January 1, 2018 and currently, Joint Commissioner (law and order) of Mumbai police, submitted an affidavit to the Koregaon Bhima Inquiry Commission on Friday.

There was a heavy bandobast at the victory pillar in Perne village because of expectations of heavy crowds on the completion of 200 years of the battle at Koregaon Bhima. Additional police force had been deployed and SRPF companies were stationed in the area.

Vishwas Nangre Patil had also attached printouts of some WhatsApp messages of police officials regarding the police bandobast at Koregaon Bhima on January 1, 2018 and before that. Nangre Patil in a WhatsApp message sent to his superiors on January 1,2018 at 11.58 am, had said that there was a danger to the residence of Jamadar Malwadkar (descendants of constable Kondojibin Gajoji Jamadar of the British army).

Some organisations had threatened to destroy Malwadkar’s house, but due to the extra bandobast and proper planning, we were able to block their efforts, says the message. There is also a mention of some provocative speeches made at the Shaniwarwada.

There is also a mention of law and order at Vadhu Budruk. On December 28 and 29, a board mentioning the controversial history was displayed, a case was registered under the Atrocity Act and some people were arrested.

Later, the issue was resolved by bringing together the residents of the village.

There was a mention of a rumour of 1,000 Marathas marching towards the victory pillar in the WhatsApp message. Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote had opposed the holding of the meet. It has been pointed out that the police had told him not to take part in any agitation.

The message mentions that Dalit and leftist organisations wanted to portray this as the beginning of an agitation against the Peshwai and wanted to make political capital by provoking the dalit community.

He left for Pune immediately after he came to know that stone pelting had taken place at Koregaon Bhima Phata at 12.30 am.

Vishwas Nangre Patil has also attached the wireless communication call log of January 1, 2018 and official documents and newspaper cuttings of reports on meetings held to bring the situation under control in Vadhu Budruk and Koregaon Bhima areas.
