Constable dismissed, 2 intelligence department officials also involved in illegal immigration racket
Mumbai : Policenama online – Maharashtra Police Havaldar Suspended | A police constable of the Mumbai Police who helped send 43 people abroad illegally by joining hands with brokers involved in human trafficking has been sacked. Constable Sanjay Thorat was posted in 2017 in the Special Branch II, which oversees immigration and passport clearance. At least 43 people were sent abroad using fake passports in collusion with human trafficking gangs. He was interrogated for five years after these accusations were made against him.
He was dismissed after being found guilty after this inquiry. On November 25, Thorat was issued discharge orders. Police said Thorat had connived with human trafficking brokers. In 2017, after the forgery and fraud came to light, a case was registered under sections of Indian Penal Code at the Sahar Police Station. After this investigation it was found that two officials of the intelligence department were also involved in the case. Action was taken against them too.
