Pimpri : Pune News | The Pimpri-Chinchwad Sub-Regional RTO Office has launched an extensive inspection drive targeting private passenger buses to prevent accidents and penalize traffic violators. The objective of this drive is to enhance road safety and curb accidents involving passenger buses. During the inspection campaign, a total of 196 buses were inspected, resulting in 80 vehicles being found in violation of traffic regulations. As a consequence of these findings, the RTO has collected a compromise fee amounting to Rs 2,72,200.

In accordance with the directives issued by the Transport Commissioner’s Office in Mumbai, the inspection drive encompassed various types of vehicles, including sleeper buses, school buses, and tourist buses. The purpose was to ensure compliance with safety measures such as speed governors, emergency doors, reflectors, wipers, indicators, fire-fighting systems, and first aid facilities. Additionally, the inspection focused on verifying the presence of necessary documents for legal and operational compliance.

Recent statistics have indicated that a significant number of accidents involving buses were attributed to drivers under the influence of alcohol. To address this issue, the RTO conducted breathalyzer tests on bus drivers to detect any instances of drunken driving. Drivers found operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol were subjected to further investigation and legal action.

The registration of cases and issuance of challans to bus drivers caught driving under the influence of alcohol demonstrate the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing the issue of drunken driving. Such measures aim to deter drivers from engaging in risky behavior that can jeopardize the safety of passengers and other road users.

The inspection drive highlights the commitment of the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO to prioritize road safety and enforce compliance with traffic regulations. By conducting thorough inspections and taking appropriate action against violators, the RTO seeks to create a safer environment for all road users.
