Omicron Covid Variant Pune | Tough decision on Covid curbs likely next week: Pawar
Pune : Policenama online – Omicron Covid Variant Pune | Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said that the administration would take a tough decision on the Covid-19 curbs next week. He was speaking to the media after attending a meeting called to review the impact of the Omicron variant on Friday.
He issued the warning in the backdrop of people not coming forward for the second dose in four talukas of the district.
Of the Covid patients infected by the Omicron variant in the Pune region, one patient in Pune and four out of six patients in Pimpri-Chinchwad have recovered. These include a 44-year-old woman, a 45-year-old man, and two girls who were seven and 1.5 years old. The reports of two girls aged 12 and 18 are awaited, said Pawar.
He said that though the public response for the second dose of Covid vaccination was less than that for the first dose, the tempo was picking up because of the advent of the Omicron variant. He said the authorities have been asked to step up the vaccination drive for the second dose in four talukas, including Purandar, Baramati, Junnar and Daund, during the next week. The number of people coming forward for the second dose is less in these four talukas.
The deputy chief minister said there were no changes in the curbs to prevent the spread of Covid-19. A decision will be taken after reviewing the situation. He said a booster dose is being considered, however, a decision will have to be taken at the national level by the Centre. The Serum Institute Of India has the required amount of vaccine doses.
