Plains of J&K including Srinagar receive light snow, rain

Srinagar, Jan 20 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir | Plains of J&K including Srinagar received light snowfall and rain during the past 24 hours while currently the weather is cloudy with light rain and snow at scattered places, Meteorological Centre said.

 

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, received 1.2mm of rainfall and 0.5 cm snowfall during the past 24 hours till 0830 hours Friday. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 0.1 degree Celsius against minus 1.4 degree Celsius the previous night. It was 2.0 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season, the MeT office said.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at minus 7.6 degree Celsius for the second consecutive day on Friday. It was 0.1 degrees above normal during this period of the season for the famous ski resort.

 

Pahalgam had a low of minus 2.9 degree Celsius against minus 4.3 degree Celsius recorded a day ago, Qazigund minus 3.3 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 1.5 degree Celsius on Friday.

 

The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.5 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 degree Celsius on the previous night, the MeT office said.

 

The MeT forecast there is “No” large change in weather today. From January 21-24 Generally Cloudy with light to moderate Snow/rain in plains of Jammu over scattered to fairly widespread places and from January 24-25 Moderate Snow/(rain in Jammu) & moderate to heavy Snow over middle & higher reaches(60% chance).

 

Moderate Rain in Jammu region & light snow in Kashmir( 60% chance) on January 26 overall, weather very likely to remain erratic with cloudy, intermittent rain/snow during January 20-26 in whole J&K.

 

It has also issued an advisory for the people living in snowbound areas to remain alert & cautious while venturing in areas which are vulnerable to Snow Avalanches.
