Srinagar other parts of Kashmir valley receives snow

Srinagar, Jan 19 (UNI) – Srinagar News | Srinagar and some other parts of Kashmir valley received light snowfall amid rise in minimum temperature but still remained below freezing point on Thursday. (Srinagar News)

 

People in Srinagar woke up to see a thin layer of snow accumulated on the roof tops, roads and on trees much to the delight of the tourists.

 

Srinagar received 0.5 Cm of snowfall and 0.5 mm of rainfall, Pahalgam 3.6 cm of snowfall and 4.3 mm of rainfall, Kupwara 1.0 cm of snowfall and 3.8 mm of rainfall, and the ski resort of Gulmarg experienced 3.0 cm of snowfall and 2.9 mm of rainfall on Thursday.

 

Meteorological forecast of Partly cloudy weather at most places with possibility of light Snow at isolated places. From January 19-22 Generally Cloudy with chances of light to moderate Snow/rain in plains of Jammu over scattered to fairly widespread places.

 

It also said that widespread moderate Snow/(rain in Jammu) & moderate to heavy Snow over middle & higher reaches(60% chance) could occur from January 23-25

 

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.4 degree Celsius Thursday against minus 4.3 degree Celsius recorded a day ago. It was 0.7 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season.

 

Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of minus 4.3 degree Celsius against minus 11.7 degree Celsius yesterday. It was 2.9 degree Celsius above normal during this period of the season at the valley of shepherds.

 

Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 7.6 degree Celsius against minus 11.3 degree Celsius recorded the previous night. It was 0.1 degrees above normal during this period of the season for the famous ski resort.

 

Qazigund, on Srinagar Jammu national highway in south Kashmir dipped to minus 3.4 degree Celsius against minus 7.4 degree Celsius, Kokernag minus 4.3 degree Celsius while the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara recorded a low of minus 2.4 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
