Pune: Policenama online  – Pune Khadakwasla Dam | CM Eknath Shinde admitted in the state assembly on Monday that waste water and chemical-laced water was being released into the Khadakwasla dam which supplies water to Pune city. He clarified that MPCB had asked CEO of Pune Zilha Parishad Ayush Prasad to take necessary action.

Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir had asked a question in the state assembly. It came to light in April that untreated waste water and chemical-laced water was being released into the Khadakwasla dam. Tapkir had asked a question how the use of polluted water has affected local residents, animals, trees and birds and what steps the government had taken to solve this problem.

Giving a reply, Shinde said, “As per the reports submitted by district health officers of the ZP on August 8, 2022 and district animal husbandry officer on August 13, 2022, no such thing has been noticed. However, in the Khadakwasla reservoir, waste water from villages like Mouje Gorhe Budruk, Malkhed, Khanapur, Donje, Kudje, Mandvi Khurd, Mandvi Budruk and Sangrun and some untreated household waste is released. Hence, the MPCB has issued instructions to the CEO of zilha parishad to take necessary action.

Meanwhile, the percentage of coliform and ecoli is increasing in the water supplied from Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet and Khadakwasla dams. Fifteen years ago, their percentage per 100 ml was 800-900. It has now increased to 1.5 lakh. Bacteria easily multiply in stored and polluted water. The number of hotels and farm houses has increased in the vicinity of the dams. Since there is no drainage facility in these hotels, the waste water is released into nalas and other water streams. From there, this polluted water is entering the dams, according to environment experts.
