Pune News | Lakhs of devotees throng Jejuri on Somwati Amavasya

JEJURI : Pune News | Lakhs of devotees thronged the Lord Khandoba temple located at Jejuri on the occasion of Somwati Amavasya on Monday. Four lakh devotees sought blessings of Lord Khandoba amidst the chants of ‘Sadanandacha Yelkot, Yelkot Yelkot Jai Malhar’ and spraying of turmeric powder. The Amavasya started at 10 pm on Sunday and it will end at midnight on Monday. Hence, Somwati Yatra was held at Jejuri. Every year, the Amavasya falls on Mondays at least twice a year.

 

 

The warkaris and devotees had come from throughout the state. At 1 pm, the palanquin was taken out in a procession in the presence of Peshve, Khomne and Malvadkar Patil. After a circumambulation, the festive idol of Lord Khandoba was kept in the palanquin. At 5 pm, the idol will be given a bath at Karha river. The palanquin will be taken back to the temple.

 

 

 

The Chief Trustee of the temple, Popat Khomne, trustee Vishwas Panse, Pandurang Thorve, Mangesh Ghone, Dr Rajendra Khedekar, Anil Soundarde, Abhijit Devkate and Chief of the temple trust Rajendra Jagtap were present.
