Pune PMC News | Retina surgery at government rates at Walse Patil Eye Health Care, Bopodi
Pune : Pune PMC News | The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will buy two hi-tech equipment for the Vision Next Foundation’s Dattatray Walse Patil Eye Care Charitable Hospital in Bopodi.
Currently, no government or semi-government hospital has such equipment to treat eye retina ailments. This treatment will be made available to common people at affordable rates after the purchase of these equipment. This was revealed by Addl Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Binwade.
The PMC has built the Walse Patil Hospital on the public-private-partnership (PPP) basis. The facility has been serving citizens for the past few years, where commoners, civic officials and employees take treatment. New advanced equipment has been developed to treat eye ailments. The civic body is trying to improve facilities at the hospital. Many patients suffer blindness in the absence of proper treatment at government or semi-government hospitals. Treatment on retina is very expensive and bills go up to lakhs of rupees in private clinics. Common citizens cannot afford them.
In this backdrop, the PMC will buy OCT Angiography and Yellow Laser with accessories. Rs 2 crore has been allocated for this hospital in the civic budget. The PMC Health Department will float a tender in this regard. The Standing Committee will consider the proposal.
Since the Walse Patil hospital is built on the PPP basis, the organisation running the facility is expected to spend money on equipment and other requirements. The civic body has signed an agreement in this regard. As the responsibility of purchasing the equipment is that of the organisation running the hospital, the civic body has been allocating funds to buy equipment for the facility. It is being talked that the PMC is rolling out the red carpet for the organisation making profits by running its hospital and providing facilities.
When contacted, Addl Municipal Commissioner Ravindra Binwade said, “No government or semi-government hospital has the facility to conduct surgeries on retina. Common citizens cannot afford this treatment at private hospitals. The civic body will provide this latest facility to them.
This decision has been taken after making necessary changes to the agreement with the foundation running the Bopodi hospital. This will facilitate treatment for common people at affordable rates. Since various types of eye treatment will be available in the municipal hospital, patients seeking refunds under various schemes by taking such treatment in other hospitals will be stopped, said Binwade.
