Pune: Woman raped, cheated of Rs 7 lakh on false wedding promise

Pune: A Hyderabad-based man has been booked for raping and cheating a woman of Rs 7 lakh by making a false promise of marriage to her. He forcefully had sex with her and then refused to marry her.

The incident took place in Hadapsar, Hyderabad, Hinjawadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad between March 2022 and January 2024.

The 31-year-old victim lodged a complaint at the Hadapsar Police Station in this regard. Mohammad Abrar Ibrahim Shaikh (35), a resident of Hyderabad, has been booked under sections 376/2/n, 417, 323, 504, 506 of the IPC.

According to the police, the accused had promised to marry the victim. He forced her to have sexual relations and took Rs 7 lakh from time to time. When the complainant asked him about the marriage, he avoided a direct answer. He beat her up when she demanded her money back.

The complaint stated that the victim was taken to Hyderabad, where the accused forced her to have sex. He also abused and threatened to kill her. API Barge is investigating further.
