Pune : Dengue Cases In Pune | With the onset of the rainy season, the incidence of epidemics is increasing in Pune. The city has witnessed a rise in the number of dengue cases, with 54 suspected patients detected in the month of June. Although the numbers are not alarmingly high, they have doubled compared to May.

Dr. Bhagwan Pawar, the health chief of the municipal corporation, revealed that from January to June this year, 472 suspected cases of dengue were reported within the city limits. Out of these, 21 cases have been confirmed. All the confirmed dengue cases were reported between January and March, with no new cases detected from April to June. However, the number of suspected cases increased from 27 in May to 54 in June. While the current numbers do not warrant immediate concern, necessary measures are being taken to prevent the spread of dengue.

During the monsoon season, stagnant water accumulates in various areas, providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes. This leads to a higher incidence of mosquito-borne diseases. It is crucial to prevent water from pooling around homes and to take preventive measures against mosquitoes indoors. If individuals experience symptoms such as fever, joint pain, or body aches, they are advised to seek medical attention promptly.

The Municipal Corporation has initiated a campaign to identify places responsible for mosquito breeding and has taken action against residential and commercial properties where breeding sites are found. A total of 172 notices have been issued from January to June, and fines amounting to Rs. 93,100 have been collected. These efforts aim to minimize the breeding of mosquitoes and curb the spread of dengue in the city.
