Pune : Policenama online – Indrani Balan Foundation | In celebration of 75 glorious years of Independence, Headquarters Southern Command and NGO Indrani Balan Foundation have joined hands to organize an adventurous and challenging endurance run from Rajgad to Sinhagad Fort on 02 April 2022. On 04 February 1670, Narveer Subhedar Tanhaji Malusare, a trusted aide of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj conquered the invincible Sinhagad Fort making a supreme sacrifice in the conquest. Honoring this sacrifice, Maratha Light Infantry celebrates 04 February as their Regimental Day. Fusing together the common inspiration of the Martha Infantry Soldiers & common man, a grand challenging endurance trek from Rajgad Fort, is being organised on 02 April 2022. Trek follows the same route taken by gallant Maratha Warriors to attack & conquer Sinhagad Fort.
The run has been conceptualized by Headquarters Southern Command & Indrani Balan Foundation with technical support from National Education Foundation (NEF), a highly experienced event organiser. Indrani Balan Foundation, is actively supporting the event as their social responsibility. This being the first year of this run, it is planned to be a trailblazer run with no competitive backdrop. The run will start from the foothills of Rajgad Fort and culminate at Sinhagad Fort, having a cross-country route spanning over 20 Kilometres.
This will be a unique initiative which will amalgamate participants from Armed forces and civilians. Out of a total of 351 participants, 151 civilian athletes will participate in this event and the rest will be personnel from the Armed Forces. The entries for the civilians shall be given on a first come first served basis. There shall be no entry fee for the participants & all participants will be felicitated with a finisher medal and a certificate.
To infuse the participants and general public with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm, the event will also encompass display of military bands and Infantry Weapons Display at Sinhagad Fort. The event will be graced by Lieutenant General JS Nain, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command.
