On the first day, he gave a jolt to those who illegally occupy footpaths and open areas for doing business. He has issued an order that all illegal businesses and encroachments should be removed and warned of action.

On the first day, Vikram Kumar has given preference to clearing the roads. The businesses being run on footpaths, roadsides and on the sides of buildings, front and side margins of buildings, hotels and other businesses should be closed and temporary structures should be removed, an order issued by Kumar says. If any illegal business is found, then action will be taken by the anti-encroachment department.

Deputy Commissioner of Encroachment Madhav Jagtap said that illegal businesses are obstructing the traffic and pedestrians. Many hotels and businesses are being operated from open spaces in buildings and we receive complaints from citizens. Against this background, all roads and footpaths will be cleared and strong action will be taken as per civic chief’s orders.

Many illegal flex, banners and flags have been put up in the city and the process to remove them is underway, said officials of the skysign department.

Various political parties and organisations have set up offices on many roads in the city. At some places, libraries and benches for elders have been put up. These structures also hinder the traffic and pedestrian movement. Jagtap said that illegal offices and libraries set up on footpaths will be removed.

However, action against libraries and other facilities built with civic funds, will be taken by discussing it with the civic chief.
