Pune Dialysis Center | Patients Left in Distress Due to Pune Dialysis Center’s Non-Operational Machines

Pune: The dialysis center at Kamla Nehru Hospital in Pune is facing imminent closure after the municipal corporation issued a show cause notice for not operating the dialysis facility. Out of the 12 dialysis machines at the center, a staggering 10 are currently non-functional, leaving patients in a state of distress.

Operated by the Lions Club of Pune Mukundnagar Charitable Trust, the center has been grappling with serious issues, leading to the shutdown of 10 machines for several days. As a result, patients have been experiencing delays in their crucial dialysis treatments.

The civic health department (PMC) took action and served a notice to the Lions Club on June 20th, urging them to address the issue promptly. In response, the Trust managed to restore operations on only three machines. However, if the remaining machines are not brought back into service within the next 15 days, the agreement between the Trust and the hospital will be terminated.

The dialysis center has the capacity to perform over 450 dialysis sessions per month. Unfortunately, this number has not been achieved over the past two years, with figures hovering around 350 sessions monthly. Currently, only six out of the 15 machines are functional, exacerbating the plight of patients seeking critical medical assistance.

One of the major challenges faced by the center is the unavailability of spare parts for the dialysis machines, which has hindered timely repairs and maintenance. Moreover, delayed payments from the Pune Municipal Corporation have further compounded the issue. It’s worth noting that patients are not charged for their treatment, and the pending payments from the authorities have been consistently delayed, causing financial strain for the Trust.
