Pune News | Trauma care unit to start in Wagholi soon; Patients will get immediate medical aid
PUNE : Pune News | The state government has decided to set up a trauma care unit in Wagholi to provide immediate medical aid to accident victims on the Pune-Nagar highway. There is heavy traffic on Pune-Nagar highway and the number of accidents is increasing day by day and the centre will prove a boon for accident victims.
The Health Services Directorate has sent a proposal to the state government regarding starting of a trauma care unit at Wagholi. The state government has given its permission for starting of the unit. The health department clarified that the location will be decided and doctors and staff will be appointed in due course.
In the last few years, many mishaps have taken place. There are a huge number of vehicles in the Wagholi area and on the national highway. If an accident takes place in the area, the injured are admitted to Sassoon Hospital foal route. It takes a lot of time to reach Sassoon Hospital. Hence, there was a der treatment and there are traffic jams on the Wagholi-Sassoon Hospitmand for setting up of a trauma care unit in the Wagholi area.
What is the need for a trauma care unit?
A) The number of heavy vehicles plying on this route is huge
B) There are densely populated villages till Shikrapur
C) More number of two and four-wheelers
D) More heavy vehicles ply in the are due to presence of Ranjangaon MIDC

Facilities in the trauma care unit
The injured are treated at the same place. There are neurosurgeons, intensivists, general surgeons, orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetist, resident medical officer, emergency department, ambulance and nurses. In the operation department, all latest equipment is available. After a patient is admitted, care is taken till the patient is stable.
Dr Kailash Baviskar, Deputy Director of Health Services, said, “The permission for setting up a trauma care unit at Wagholi has been given as a special case. If any accident takes place on the highway or the district, immediate medical aid will be available. After finding a suitable place, arrangements for beds will be made.”
