PIMPRI : Policenama online – Pune Pimpri Chinchwad Crime News | Five bookies have been arrested by unit 2 of Pimpri Chinchwad Crime Branch for accepting bets on IPL matches. They have seized 14 mobiles, a laptop, 2 routers, gambling equipment and cash totally worth ₹1 lakh from them. The accused have been identified as Govind Prabhudas Lalwani (45), Kanhaiyyalal Sugunmul Harjani (61), Devanand Prataprao Daryani (51), Ramesh Dayaram Mirani (63) and Haresh Hanumant Thatai (58), all residents of Pimpri. The police had received information that some people were accepting bets on an IPL match between Mumbai Indians versus Delhi Capital in a posh society at Chinchwad. The information was verified.
A team of police officials raided flat number 602 on the sixth floor of Metropolitan Society at Chinchwadgaon. They found that five people were accepting bets on IPL matches. They were watching the match one ball earlier on the Taj 777 app before it was shown on TV and taking advantage of this, they were accepting bets from various people. The police have seized mobile, gambling equipment totally worth ₹1 lakh. A possibility of this being part of a large inter-state betting racket has been expressed. PSI Ganesh Mane is probing the case.
The action was taken under the guidance of CP Vinay Kumar Choubey, Joint CP Manoj Lohia, Addl CP Dr Sanjay Shinde, DCP Swapna Gore, ACP Dr Prashant Amrutkar by a team of officials including PI Jitendra Kadam of unit 2, PSI Ganesh Mane, policemen Jayawant Raut, Pramod Vetal, Deva Raut and Sagar Avsare.
