Two police personnel seriously injured due to manja in Pune
Pune : Policenama online – Pune Crime News | Though the nylon manja (kite string) is banned, it is still being sold in the city. Not only birds are injured due to this manja but also passersby get hurt. Two policemen, riding a two-wheeler, were seriously injured due to the nylon manja during Makar Sankranti. The accident took place on the Shankar Maharaj flyover on Pune-Satara road. (Pune Crime News)
The seriously injured policemen have been identified as Mahesh Pawar and Sunil Gawli. Both are posted at the Shivajinagar headquarters and were riding a two-wheeler on Sunday. Mahesh Pawar’s neck was cut as manja got stuck in it. Sunil Gawli’s hand got a cut as the manja was wrapped around his hand. Balasaheb Dhamale, a bird friend, was going on a bike from the Shankar Maharaj Flyover. He took both the police personnel to hospital.
Due to the use of nylon manja for kite flying, birds such as kites, crows, pigeons are found injured in different parts of the city. On Sunday, three black kites were stuck in the manja in Kasba Peth. They were rescued. Dhamale rescued three black kites stuck in the manja and admitted them to the animal orphanage of Katraj for treatment.
